8 March 2018: So it turns out that not all budget airlines adopt the Ryanair model.
Despite being somewhat bombarded by text and email just before our flight regarding various extras we could purchase (choice of seat, priority boarding, purchase of flight meal, priority luggage reclaim etc etc) and having refused them all, we were pleasantly surprised with Spicejet’s service on our flight from Mumbai to Varanasi.
Check in was fine, they didn’t adopt the Ryanair trick of separating us and our luggage couldn’t have come out more quickly at Varanasi.
And because it was International Women’s day, all female passengers were presented with a (not so practical) rose on boarding and, better still, a free cup of tea and biscuit (and yes the latter was dutifully shared).
True there wasn’t much leg room but hey you can’t have it all and it was only a 2 hour flight saving us a multi day train journey.
Well done Spicejet.
