The colours of Tamil Nadu

One of my abiding memories of my previous trip to India was the colours.  And again this same thing strikes me on this trip, particularly the colours of the ladies’ clothes.  In Tamil Nadu, almost without exception, all the ladies dress traditionally, the vast majority in saris but some younger girls wear the salwar kameez.  Uniformly, the clothes are vibrant and often highly decorative.  In comparison, the average UK High Street of black, more black with some blue jeans, grey and white thrown into the mix is so boring and (almost literally) monochrome.

Here in India, everywhere you look there is colour: pinks worn with oranges, blues worn with yellow, an amazing array of greens and lots of gold too.  It’s just absolutely stunning. Even the school uniforms tend to be brightly coloured as well.  It’s really striking.
